CASA Community Garden Plant Day
The CASA Community Garden is located in Huntsville. All of the produce harvested from the garden is delivered to our elderly and homebound clients. The kick-off of the Garden season is CASA's annual Plant Day, which will be held twice this year, both on May 3rd and May 17th from 8:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. Volunteers will be preparing beds, planting, and prepping for the Garden season. Volunteers should be willing and physically able to work in a garden. Please bring gloves, sunscreen, and insect repellant. To sign up, please contact Amber at the CASA office.

Golf Tournament Fundraiser
On May 17, 2008m the Youth of Latham United Methodist Church will be holding a Golf Tournament Fundraiser at Twin Lakes Gold Club in Arab, Alabama. The money raised will go towards an International Youth Mission Trip to Latvia. In Latvia, the youth will be working on a Camp and Retreat Center and running a spiritual retreat for the youth of Latvia and Lithuania. The volunteer center of Madison County invites youth ages 11-18 to its Youth Volunteer Corp (YVC) Summer Projects Registration Blitz at the Huntsville Main Public Library. The address is 915 Monroe Street. The event starts at 11am-12 noon. Parents are encouraged to bring medical and insurance information for registration. YVC members develop leadership skills, learn about Madison County, explore possible careers and most of all , have fun working together to create positive change in their neighborhoods and community.

Residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste materials out to the old recycling center located on Stewart Drive in Athens from 8am-1pm. This event is to give residents another option to dispose of hazardous materials. There are a few restrictions: No tires, Explosives(such as dynamite or ammunition), anything containing radioactive material, tanks with unknown contents, electronics, prescription meds.,and no waste from businesses or farms per federal regulations.
